ABOUT

What is SMP?

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure designed to create the appearance of fuller hair by applying pigments to the scalp. SMP typically requires multiple sessions, usually two to four, spaced a week or more apart. This gradual process allows for the pigment to be built up and adjusted for optimal colour blending and density. After each session, the treated area may be red and slightly swollen, but this usually subsides within a few days.

Scalp micropigmentation offers several benefits, including being a non-invasive procedure with minimal downtime, providing immediate visible results after each session, and requiring minimal maintenance once healed

How It Works

Consultation

Before the procedure begins, a consultation is conducted to discuss the client's goals, assess the extent of hair loss, and determine the appropriate pigment colour to match the client's natural hair and skin tone.

Preparation

Clients are often advised to trim their hair short to ensure a uniform look. After the haircut, the scalp is thoroughly cleaned to remove any oils, dirt, or residues.

Pigment Selection

A specially formulated pigment is selected, which is designed to match the natural hair colour. This pigment is different from traditional tattoo ink, being more resistant to fading and designed specifically for the scalp.

Application

We mark the areas of the scalp to be treated to ensure even application. Then, tiny microneedles are used to deposit the pigment into the upper layers of the scalp skin. These needles create small, hair follicle-like impressions on the scalp. The pigment is applied in a series of dots or strokes, building up layers to achieve the desired density and shading.

Sessions

SMP typically requires multiple sessions, usually 2-4, spaced a week or more apart. This allows for gradual building up of the pigment and adjustments for optimal colour blending and density.

Healing and Aftercare

The treated area may be red and slightly swollen immediately after the procedure, but this typically subsides within a few days. Our clients are advised to avoid heavy sweating, swimming, and direct sunlight for several days. It is also recommended to avoid washing the scalp for a few days to allow proper healing. If necessary, follow-up sessions are scheduled to refine and touch up the pigment, ensuring a natural and even look.

Results

The final result is a natural-looking appearance of closely shaved hair or fuller hair density, depending on the client's needs. The pigments used in SMP are designed to last for several years, though touch-ups may be needed over time to maintain the look.

Benefits of SMP

Unlike hair transplants, SMP is a non-surgical procedure with minimal downtime. Clients can see visible results after each session. Once healed, the treated area requires minimal maintenance. Overall, compared to other hair restoration methods, SMP is relatively affordable.
